VoteHub projected that Democrats won control of the US Senate after flipping seats in Republican strongholds, giving the party the power to block President Donald Trump’s nominees and legislation. The call came as the New York Times election forecast updated its projection to a 55-45 Democratic majority, up from an earlier 54-45 split.
Earlier in the evening, Democratic candidates James Talarico and Andrews flipped Republican held seats in Texas and South Carolina, bringing Democrats to 47 called seats while the Times forecast favored the party in Ohio, Kansas, Maine and Iowa. Those results followed final New York Times and Siena University pre-election polls showing Democrats leading in all seven core Senate battlegrounds, including Abdul El-Sayed by 11 points in Michigan, Talarico by 7 in Texas and Troy Jackson by 6 in Maine, even after the Times adjusted its weighting because registered white Democrats were 30% likelier to respond than registered white Republicans.
