The Associated Press called the race for a House seat in Michigan on Nov 4 for Democrat Sean McCann, who defeated Republican incumbent Rep. Bill Huizenga. The victory flips the 4th congressional district for the Democrats after a series of conflicting projections and shifting vote tallies from news agency MIRS and Decision Desk HQ.
Huizenga, who served as the Vice Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, is the third leader on the committee to lose his seat this cycle, following the defeats of GOP Reps. Wagner and Steil. Because membership and scope are reset each Congress, the loss of Huizenga and Steil—the former chair of the digital asset subcommittee—leaves the future of the committee’s crypto-focused subcommittee uncertain.
