Maritime security alerts intensified in the Strait of Hormuz on Oct 29 as at least two commercial vessels were reported hit by projectiles during their transit. The most recent incident occurred at 16:00 UTC, when an outbound oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). While the shipping agency reported no injuries to the crew and no environmental damage, it issued Warning 186-26 advising all vessels to transit the area with caution.
The latest strike follows a separate report from earlier Thursday that a mid-size vessel was disabled in the same waterway. While UKMTO has not identified the source of the projectiles, lapped with unverified footage of two burning ships in the strait’s southern route, some analysts allege that Iran targeted the vessels using anti-ship missiles or naval mines.
