The SPY ETF hit its lowest full-day volume since Dec. 26, 2003, trading just 18.3 million shares on Oct. 12. This followed a session on Oct. 10 when shares traded at 22.62 million, a level analysts initially called a seven-year low. Equity prices declined during the Oct. 12 session as gains in energy stocks were offset by losses in technology shares.
