CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford apologized on Sunday after deleting a post featuring video from the town hall, saying the post violated network standards. Separately, Fox News reported that El-Sayed acknowledged his sister-in-law was a plaintiff in a federal terrorism lawsuit.
The exchanges follow a week of scrutiny after El-Sayed said on NBC's Meet the Press that neither he nor his family had any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, which the Washington Free Beacon countered with 2012 social media posts from his half-sister, Eman Abdelhadi, stating that "my family has long been Muslim Brotherhood" and referencing their mother's activism in the group in Egypt during the 1970s. El-Sayed later disavowed the organization at the Saturday town hall and dismissed his sister's posts as "hearsay," while his campaign called the allegations "racist" and "untrue."
