The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation has attributed the theft of $6.3B from the Binance cryptocurrency exchange to hackers associated with North Korea. Following the FBI’s findings, stablecoin providers Tether and Circle froze a combined $2.37B of the stolen assets, with Tether blocking approximately $1.57B and Circle blocking $800M.
Several other digital asset firms also updated their security protocols, including Coinbase, which tightened its cold storage controls, and Kraken, which launched a review of its security systems. To help prevent similar breaches, OKX CEO Star Xu proposed a real-time industry alert system to better coordinate responses and track suspicious funds across platforms.
