A contender for the US Senate seat in Texas has countered accusations that he is “pure evil” after attracting a supporter from a traditional Republican family. Democrat James Talarico responded to attacks from billionaire Elon Musk on X, whose posts targeted Talarico’s character. The friction intensified after Neil Bush, the brother of former President George W. Bush and son of former President George H.W. Bush, announced on Facebook that he voted for Talarico over Republican Ken Paxton.
Bush posted his decision on Facebook for the first time in a political capacity, stating he was impressed by Talarico’s respect for others and a desire for common ground. He said he voted against a style of politics that has damaged the country and instead backed leadership that could heal it. Other members of the Bush family have also expressed support for Talarico, while Ken Paxton continues his campaign with an endorsement from Donald Trump.
