Russia’s health watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, denied reports of a second illness and said nearly 5,000 laboratory tests detected no dangerous pathogens. It said medical monitoring was complete for more than 90% of Shipilova’s contacts. About 200 people were placed under observation following her illness.
The World Health Organization is seeking the cause of the pneumonia, details of the pathogen that prompted preventive measures and information about reports of a second employee with unexplained pneumonia. It says the information disclosed is insufficient for a full risk assessment. The CDC says there is no indication of a broader threat to the US.
