A phone conversation on Sunday between Ukrainian officials and Donald Trump’s representatives served to coordinate a direct summit to end the conflict. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to finalize a date for talks that could take place as early as this week, with Zelenskyy stating he is ready to meet the pair in person to advance a new peace plan.
These deliberations follow a Friday discussion between Ukraine Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Kushner to open bilateral channels. Zelenskyy has advocated for an energy ceasefire to stop Russian strikes on power infrastructure as a starting point for negotiations and suggested Brussels as a potential site for the meetings.
