The Saudi-led coalition said 100 fighter jets participated in Operation Dawn of Yemen and 324 targets were hit, with aircraft providing cover for ground troops and protection over the Bab el-Mandeb shipping chokepoint. Government military spokesperson Majed al-Nuzaili said troops had captured Dhubab airport, cut the road between Dhubab and Mokha and surrounded hundreds of Houthi fighters. The government claimed control of the strait, which the Houthis denied.
The Houthis meanwhile advanced around Taiz, pushing into al-Turbah and taking sections of the road connecting Taiz with Aden, five government military sources told Reuters. Several government sources described Taiz as effectively surrounded, though another disputed that the road had been completely cut. The competing advances came as government forces sought to reverse Houthi gains along the coast from the previous month.
