The government of Japan has officially condemned demands from Moscow to extradite members of the International Criminal Court currently in the Netherlands. Russia issued warrants and in absentia sentences for ICC President Tomoko Akane and eight other officials as retaliation for a 2023 arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin regarding alleged war crimes in Ukraine. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called the move "unjust and unacceptable" and reaffirmed Japan's support for the court.
