The United States formally notified the Council of Europe on Monday that it is withdrawing from the Group of States against Corruption, also known as GRECO. Washington has been a member of the watchdog since 2000 and now joins Russia and Belarus as the only countries to ever leave the organization. The State Department cited a lack of benefits resulting from the membership compared to the annual fees the US pays to remain a part of the body.
