The Japanese central bank is revising the schedule for offloading its portfolio of equity exchange traded funds to shorten the duration of the divestment process. Starting in January 2027, the Bank of Japan will increase its annual sales volume to approximately 860 billion yen, up from the previous rate of about 330 billion yen.
This acceleration reduces the estimated time required to fully liquidate the bank’s ETF holdings to about 43 years, compared to an earlier projection of 112 years. The assets earmarked for sale represent roughly 0.1% of the market trading value.
