The flash memory maker is negotiating the establishment of new production facilities in the state of New York to meet rising demand for high-capacity storage in AI data centers. The company is in talks with officials to construct two NAND flash memory plants at the Marcy NanoCenter, which would each have a monthly capacity of roughly 100,000 12-inch wafers.
The planned project could require a total investment of $100B, with the cost of each individual facility estimated between $40B and $50B. While the move would be the first U.S. manufacturing operation for the subsidiary of SK Hynix, the parent company stated that the plans remain under review and no final decision has been made.
