Gavin Newsom holds a 42% approval rating among the state's likely voters, while 55% of respondents disapprove of his performance in office. These results come from a UC Berkeley and Politico poll conducted from September 11 to September 16.

The survey also found Xavier Becerra leading the 2026 California gubernatorial race with 54% support. Republican challenger Steve Hilton follows with 36% support among the electorate.
