Kalshi plans to use its recent capital injection to launch new regulated prediction contracts based on stocks, indices and compute power to attract a broader set of retail and institutional traders. The growth strategy follows a sharp increase in the platform’s trading activity, which has pushed its annualized trading fee revenue run rate to more than $6B, up from $4.6B in September. The exchange has also seen its annualized trading volume climb past $1T as it diversifies beyond sports betting.
The platform’s market share in prediction markets grew from 10% to over 80% in 16 months, which facilitated a $1B Series G funding round that valued the firm at $40B. CEO Tarek Mansour said the company will use the new funds to enter international markets including Brazil, Mexico and Canada. Kalshi also reports that its total revenue for the fourth quarter is currently on track to surpass that of Robinhood.
