In her departure statement, Guilfoyle said, “These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity.” Her exit followed a Wall Street Journal report that she asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay her $100,000 American Express bill before her July 2025 Senate confirmation hearing while offering help with administration officials. Deters said he never paid. Her lawyer disputed the messages’ authenticity and said she was owed money for earlier speaking engagements.
House Democrats are continuing to demand answers after her resignation, Punchbowl News reported. House Oversight Committee Democrats have requested financial and phone records by Oct. 22. The State Department’s inspector general is investigating Guilfoyle and the embassy she led, NBC News reported, with the Journal reporting that the inquiry includes whether she accepted improper gifts or favors. Her lawyers said she followed State Department travel and gift rules.
