Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday launched Operation Economic Outcast to isolate Tehran's industrial network and remaining sources of revenue. The US Treasury designated the country's largest automakers, Iran Khodro and SAIPA, and established sectoral sanctions determinations for the rail, manufacturing, and steel industries, which allows Washington to sanction any persons or entities operating in those sectors. The measures also target foreign suppliers and facilitators in Germany, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Turkiye, and the UAE.
