The secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council told state television that Tehran’s status as a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is not guaranteed if the country is drawn into another war. Mohsen Rezaei stated that Iran would insist on its “22-point rights” as a priority before addressing its nuclear obligations, though he clarified that no official government decision has been made to formally revise the nation’s nuclear doctrine.
The latest warnings follow reports that Iranian parliament is considering at least 10 proposals to withdraw from the NPT and calls from lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei to increase uranium enrichment from 60% to 90%. Amid these internal debates, Mohsen Rezaei said he has reviewed a letter from US Vice President JD Vance, noting that the tone from Washington has “completely changed” and calling the shift a positive sign for Iranian authority.
