“Nobody has heard [of the ceasefire],” the Ukrainian official said, adding that repair teams were restoring electricity and water supplies in Kyiv after Russian strikes moments earlier. Earlier Sunday, Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine would stop striking Russian refineries if Moscow stopped attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure, insisting that any de-escalation must be reciprocal and backed by real guarantees.
The announcement followed Trump’s demand on Saturday that Zelensky stop attacks on Russian refineries, which he blamed for hurting American farmers through higher diesel prices. Washington had authorized Russian diesel transactions through April 7, 2027, after Trump announced a fuel supply deal with Vladimir Putin on Friday. Zelensky called that deal “not fair and not honest” and said he would have supported sanctions relief as part of an agreement halting energy attacks during winter.
