María Corina Machado stated that the government in Washington presented a proposal for Venezuela’s next presidential election to be held in 2027. This claim comes as the opposition leader and interim President Delcy Rodríguez offer conflicting accounts of the electoral timeline, signaling a burgeoning power struggle over the country’s democratic transition.
While Rodríguez has pledged to overhaul the National Electoral Council and hold all constitutionally mandated votes, she has refused to fix a specific date for the polls. The current roadmap includes a provision where the presidency is declared vacant, which would trigger a new election cycle within 6 months, but Machado noted that she will not fully endorse the transition until a guaranteed presidential vote is secured.
