The company is reducing its lease of AI cloud compute capacity from Oracle after deciding not to renew segments of their rental agreement. Microsoft has begun turning off the rented infrastructure over recent months because the hardware, which relies on older Nvidia chips, no longer meets the company’s current technical specifications, Bloomberg reported.
The move is part of a broader reassessment of Microsoft’s cloud partnerships and AI infrastructure spending. Oracle shares fell 5% following the report, though Oracle maintains that demand for its AI services remains strong and stated in September that some 4 year old GPU contracts were renewed at a 20% premium.
