The renewed slide followed a warning from Deutsche Bank that CoreWeave "no doubt will need additional capital to fund existing backlog over the next 12-18 months," estimating a $35 billion funding gap between roughly $10 billion in next 12 month operating cash flow and $45 billion in required capital expenditures. Other banks defended the company on Friday, with Jefferies calling the selloff overdone with a $150 price target and JPMorgan noting its capacity is presold under long term take or pay contracts. Short sellers made about $806 million in paper profit on Wednesday alone when the stock dropped 15.5%, according to Ortex.
Concerns over debt funded AI infrastructure weighed on peers and chipmakers across the market on Friday, sending the S&P 500 ETF down 1.11% to $763.25. Fellow neocloud providers Nebius and IREN dropped about 9% and 8% in midday trading, while Intel fell 5.6%, AMD lost 5.4%, Micron slid 4.9% and Broadcom declined 4.1%.
