The combined global debt issuance from Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, and Oracle has climbed to $271 billion this year as the companies borrow heavily to fund artificial intelligence infrastructure. This latest total follows a burst of activity between Oct 29 and Nov 3, during which the hyperscaler group raised $41.7 billion across three separate bond deals.
The spending binge helped push year-to-date US investment-grade bond sales to a record $1.76 trillion, exceeding the previous pandemic-era peak of $1.75 trillion set in 2020. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said this volume of issuance from hyperscalers has played a role in rising bond yields, even as total global bond sales hit an all-time high of $6.61 trillion. Bank of America forecasts that the trend will peak in November with an estimated $175 billion in US investment-grade issuance, which would be the highest for any November on record.
