A new packaging plant in central Taiwan opened recently as Micron management and labor unions clashed over employee bonus schemes. President William Lai has since urged both parties to negotiate "sincerely" to avoid a strike that would disrupt the supply of high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips. One labor union claims it already possesses sufficient votes to initiate a walkout during a period of severe global memory chip shortages.
