A report on power grid infrastructure released Nov 2 calculates the impact of shifting electricity expansion expenses away from residential consumers. The analysis finds that ratepayer protection provisions in the BAAJA will require data centers to pay more than $50 billion for transmission services over the next 10 years.
The cost to the data center industry could increase by an additional $100 billion or more if state governments adopt guidelines that require these facilities to fund power generation costs as well.
