Local voters in several U.S. states have cast strong opposition to the expansion of AI infrastructure, with restrictions favored in 29 of the first 30 reported ballot measures nationwide. The results show deep resistance to the buildout in Ohio, where 77.4% of Trenton voters backed a data center ban, and in Illinois, where a moratorium on large facilities won 78.8% support in Bloomington. In Janesville, Wisconsin, more than 61% of voters backed a requirement for public approval for projects exceeding $450M at a proposed campus site.
