The State Department confirmed that zero Somali refugees have been admitted to the U.S. since January 20, 2025, compared to 4,992 who entered during the four months before the current administration took office. President Trump has publicly stated the halt applies to Somalia and other locations the administration deems dangerous. In January 2026, Washington also terminated Somalia's Temporary Protected Status and cut off financial aid to the Somali government citing the theft of food aid.
