The Russian Air Force suffered the death of two pilots when a second Su-30SM fighter jet crashed on Wednesday afternoon. This aviation accident occurred hours after another Su-30SM went down in the Kaliningrad region, totaling two lost airframes in a single day. Military monitoring accounts reported the aircraft losses have caused frustration among Russian military circles.
The first crash took place in the Chernyakhovsk district of the Kaliningrad enclave during a scheduled training flight. The Russian MoD stated that the aircraft carried no ammunition and fell in an unpopulated area, though local reports indicated it crashed near a military funeral at a cemetery. Both crew members in that incident ejected and were hospitalized with injuries, though the MoD said their lives were not in danger. The first jet was likely part of the 4th Guards Naval Assault Aviation Regiment of the Baltic Fleet.
