The loss occurred within 24 hours of the sinking of the Cape Dao, an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged dry bulk vessel that foundered off Oman on Wednesday after being struck by a projectile on September 23. Only 3 vessels attempted a day-time crossing of the strait on Wednesday as attacks in October have already surpassed September's total with 24 or more vessels struck. This marks the first time Iran has sunk commercial ships in the region since the Safeen Prestige was hit in early March.
