Eritrean troops entered the Tigray region through Zelambessa and moved through the city of Adigrat, 25 km from the border, the first verified presence of their military on Ethiopian soil since September 23. Ethiopia responded by launching drone strikes against Eritrean vehicles at Guada and reported the interception of clandestine shipments of thousands of rounds of ammunition from Asmara. This escalation coincides with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed beginning a second 5 year term and pledging to secure access to a seaport to establish air superiority in the region.
