The company’s hardware division, comprising about 15 engineers, is using its Claude AI models to develop custom Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) designed to train and run the company’s software. Anthropic told potential investors that the use of its own models speeds up the engineering and design process relative to the typical workflows used at semiconductor firms like Nvidia and AMD.
To support the development of the new hardware, the AI startup has approached electronic design automation firms to negotiate the purchase or use of chip design data. The disclosure regarding the lausing of Claude for hardware creation comes as the company prepares for a potential initial public offering.
