The China Securities Regulatory Commission told investment banks in recent days to suspend the processing of initial public offerings and the sale of large blocks of shares by existing investors. This directive is intended to curb the decline of the country’s equity markets and will remain in effect until trading conditions improve.
The instructions were delivered via “window guidance,” a method of informal and private communication used by the regulator. These steps supplement several other measures already implemented to bolster the struggling stock market.
