The leading firms in the American technology sector are ramping up their investment in the energy and hardware necessary for the expansion of generative AI. Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle have collectively committed more than $3 trillion toward future expenditures for data centers, equipment, and leases, as the companies race to scale their technical capacity.
The commitments are focused on buildings, energy, and hardware, though some projects extend into non-AI infrastructure over several years or decades. Alphabet’s individual pledge of over $1 trillion is nearly 8 times its total from a year ago, while Meta has committed more than $800 billion.
