Meta’s existing credit rating remains steady, though S&P has shifted the outlook for the company’s debt to negative. The revision follows a review of the company’s spending on artificial intelligence, which the agency says has created instability regarding Meta’s free operating cash flow and increased capital expenditures.
S&P noted that the costs associated with the company’s multiyear AI investments make it unlikely that Meta will implement previously expected spending cuts. As a result, the agency projects that the company will need to rely on debt to finance a projected cash flow deficit in 2028.
