The People’s Bank of China will start another round of bidding for its swap facility for securities, fund and insurance companies on Tuesday to encourage more investment in the domestic stock market. More than 30 financial institutions have applied for the tool, which provides essential liquidity to firms for investing in stocks and exchange traded funds, Cailian reported.
The tender follows a series of meetings on Monday between the PBOC, the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the National Financial Regulatory Administration to halt a 12 week losing streak in equities. Regulators met with banks and fund managers to optimize existing mechanisms, including a relending facility for share buybacks, with a focus on lowering application thresholds and simplifying approval processes to increase the volume of funds actually disbursed to the market.
