Trump told reporters on Oct. 12, “We’re looking at it. Yeah, we’re not happy,” when asked about removing Guilfoyle. Trump donor Eric Deters alleges she requested $100,000 to pay her American Express bill before her July 2025 Senate confirmation hearing in exchange for help with administration officials. Deters said he never paid. Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputed the messages’ authenticity and said she was owed money for previous speaking engagements.
The State Department’s inspector general is investigating Guilfoyle and the embassy she leads, NBC News reported. The Wall Street Journal reported that the inquiry includes whether she accepted improper gifts or favors, following a recording in which she described travel funded by Greek businessmen. House Oversight Committee Democrats have requested financial and phone records by Oct. 22.
