Turkey Transfers Bashiqa Military Base to Iraq in Security Pact

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi met in New York to agree on the phased withdrawal of Turkish troops from the Bashiqa-Zilkan garrison. Turkish forces will transfer the facility to the Iraqi Federal Government following a set timeline, contingent on Baghdad establishing full state authority in Sinjar and removing banned foreign armed elements from the region.

The two leaders also reached a consensus to increase bilateral trade and investment and accelerate joint strategic initiatives, most notably the Development Road Project. The joint statement concluded with a commitment to deepen cooperation in security and immediately implement previously signed agreements between the two nations.
