The operators of the cross-chain swap network THORChain are preparing a code update and a subsequent vote to restart the protocol’s services. Once the network is back online, it will process a backlog of pending transactions, including transfers tied to North Korean agents moving funds previously stolen from the Binance exchange.
The system was halted Oct 31 after an Ethereum chain reorganization led THORChain to erroneously issue a double refund to a user who had deposited 10 ETH. The event triggered an emergency pause that blocked all users from using most of the platform’s bridges, which analytics firm Chainalysis said inadvertently delayed the laundering of the stolen Binance assets.
