Trump donor Eric Deters alleges that Guilfoyle asked him to pay her $100,000 American Express bill before her July 2025 Senate confirmation hearing while offering help with tax and legal matters through her administration connections. “It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express,” she wrote in Signal messages reviewed by the Wall Street Journal. Deters said he never paid. Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputed the messages’ authenticity and said she was owed money for previous speaking engagements.
The State Department’s inspector general is investigating Guilfoyle and the embassy she leads, NBC News reported. The Journal reported that the probe includes whether she accepted improper gifts or favors, after a January recording captured her describing travel funded by Greek businessmen. House Oversight Committee Democrats have demanded financial and phone records by Oct. 22. Polymarket put the chance of her departure by the end of October at 69%.
