The convictions follow the recent apprehension of Anibal Alexander Canelon Aguirre, the suspected architect of the network and the first person designated as a cybercriminal on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. Since the Justice Department designated Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization, federal agents have charged nearly 350 members of the gang. Aguirre's operation allegedly used malware to force cash dispensers to release funds, causing over $63 million in losses through approximately 2,500 incidents since 2017.
