IRGC General Hossein Zarifi Killed in Saravan Militant Clash

Two senior officers of the Revolutionary Guard died while leading an assault on a suspected insurgent cell in Sistan-Baluchestan province on Tuesday. Brigadier General Hossein Zarifi, who commanded the Shahid Sajjad Saravan Operational Headquarters, and Major Ahmad Zeraati were killed during the fight in Saravan. Iranian security forces killed between 3 and 5 members of the opposition group and arrested several others during the operation in the Jahadabad area.

Tehran alleges the militants were mercenaries acting on behalf of the U.S. and Israel. The IRGC Quds Base confirmed the casualties through state media, and officials have scheduled a funeral for Zarifi this Friday in Saravan.
