A Swedish man who previously commanded a Ukrainian drone unit was taken into custody in the Pskov region on charges of illegal entry. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) alleges the man entered the country under the pretext of joining the army to conduct sabotage at military sites. The agency states the suspect served as a contract soldier and UAV squad commander for Ukraine's 24th Separate Assault Battalion from February to June 2026.

Russia is considering additional charges of mercenarism and participation in a terrorist organization, as it designates the 24th Separate Assault Battalion as a terrorist group. The FSB claims documents confirm the man's participation in combat operations against Russia. The news outlet Nexta stated that Russia frequently detains foreign nationals to use them as leverage for the release of its own intelligence officers.
