Tehran had summoned French Ambassador Pierre Cochard on Oct. 6, accusing France of human rights violations and citing more than 5,000 arrests and reports of police brutality in classrooms. The protests, which began in late September over teacher shortages and crowded facilities, have been used by Iran to highlight what spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei calls a double standard in Paris's human rights critiques. France maintains these claims are baseless, noting that at least one officer has already been charged for firing a tear gas grenade at a student.
