U.S. technology shares suffered a midday reversal on Monday, as the Nasdaq 100 surrendered its initial gains to close the trading session in the red. The benchmark lost $1 trillion in market capitalization within a five hour window and fell more than 10% from its peak in October, officially triggering a technical correction.
The volatility follows a period of investor concern over artificial intelligence spending that drove the index to a 6.66% drop in October, its steepest monthly loss since March 2025. Market attention now shifts to the fourth-quarter financial results for Apple, which the company will report after the closing bell on Monday.
