The forced closure of Valve No. 7 began on September 21 and caused a loss of 720,362 barrels of output and more than $75 million in direct losses as of September 24. During the blockade, Petroleum Facilities Guard personnel also obstructed the gates of the Brega Petroleum Marketing Company and the Zawiya Oil Refining Company, blocking employees from entering. While the NOC cited direct losses of $75 million, other estimates suggest the total cost of the disruption approached $100 million.
