NPS supervisor Kevin Greiss testified that 430 trees were felled over the weekend as part of a plan to remove 729 trees to restore the course to its 1920s layout. Greiss stated that 20 to 40 personnel were reassigned from America 250 D.C. projects last week to carry out the work. The clearing is part of a Trump administration effort to rebuild the site into a championship-level facility, a project currently being challenged in court by preservation groups including Democracy Forward.
