CBS News published the statement, taken by Cornell University Police in November 2024. TMZ separately published an October 21, 2024, text exchange with fraternity member Jonathan Newell in which Doe wrote, “my memories super clouded too” and “non of the sexual stuff was illegal.” She also wrote that other participants “should have taken it on themselves to leave.”
Doe alleges seven Chi Phi fraternity members assaulted her in October 2024 while she was too drunk and drugged to consent. All seven deny wrongdoing, and no criminal charges have been filed. New York Attorney General Letitia James has taken over the reopened criminal investigation, while Cornell appointed former US Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates to lead an independent review of its prevention of and response to sexual assault claims.
