Kenyan Court Convicts Paul Mackenzie of Murdering 191 People

Legal proceedings in Mombasa ended on Monday with a guilty verdict for a preacher and his aides. Paul Mackenzie and 28 associates were convicted of murdering 191 people, mostly children, at a starvation cult base. The judge heard that Mackenzie allegedly incited his followers to starve to death in order to "meet Jesus."

The verdict follows the discovery of hundreds of bodies since 2023 at a base located inland from the Malindi beach resort. The killings, which targeted acolytes of the sect, are known as the Shakahola Forest Massacre.
