The Justice Department directed employees on Oct. 6 to use “super intelligence” instead of AI, including in official court filings. Trump’s Sept. 29 executive order requires federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official communications, to the maximum extent permitted by law, and says the executive branch will not acknowledge the old terms in applicable settings.
Jeff Bezos backed the new name on Oct. 7, saying “I do like SI” because “artificial is not a very flattering thing.” Elon Musk has also announced plans to rename SpaceX’s AI unit SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI. California Governor Gavin Newsom took the opposite approach, signing an order on Sept. 30 directing state agencies to continue using “artificial intelligence.”
